European Powder Metallurgy Associations (EPMA) annual Euro PM Congress & Exhibition, which this year is taking place in Bilbao, Spain, has attracted a record number of abstracts, resulting in one of the largest Euro PM Technical Programmes to date.
Euro PM2018 Congress has recorded over 300 abstracts provided by the Powder Metallurgy community, an increase of over 30% compared to previous years Euro PM Events. The high number of submitted abstracts will make for a busy and industrious Technical Programme and help to showcase how the different areas of powder metallurgy – Additive Manufacturing/Hard Materials and Diamond Tools/Hot Isostatic Pressing/Metal Injection Moulding and conventional Press & Sinter are all creating advantages for the components and processes they are involved with.
This year’s Euro PM2018 Congress & Exhibition will for the first time take place against the industrial port setting of Spain’s northern city Bilbao. The largest city in the province of Biscay in the Basque Country, Bilbao is the 10th largest city in Spain, making it one of the most populous areas in northern Spain. The port of Bilbao is a first-class commercial port; among the top five in Europe with over 200 regular maritime services linking with 500 ports worldwide. Northern European countries are the main business customers of the Bilbao port, which in recent years has accounted for around 31.6 million cargo movements, with over 70,000 passengers annually passing through the port. Iron is the main and most abundant raw material found in Biscay and has been mined here for over 500 years. The area around Bilbao is also well known for the quality of minerals that can be extracted, which are exported all over Europe and globally.
The Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC) will host the 2018 Euro PM event, 14-18 October 2018, in its modern and airy congress centre. The technical sessions will take place in the BEC Tower, at 98m high it is one of the tallest buildings in Bilbao and offers a great view of the surrounding region. The BEC Tower is connected to the exhibition pavilion, via a series of elevators and escalators.
This year’s Euro PM Exhibition will fully represent all areas of the PM industry from raw material suppliers, through to equipment manufactures and NDT companies. At over 5,000m2 of dedicated exhibition space, containing over 100 PM related supply chain companies, will make this year’s Euro PM Exhibition one of, if not the largest dedicated powder metal industry exhibition in Europe in 2018!
There will be ample opportunity to network with PM industry colleagues and discuss pertinent issues arising from the technical sessions during the scheduled coffee breaks or the social schedule. Additional to the 3-days of technical sessions there will be 7 Special Interest Seminars (SIS) within the programme focussing on a specific industry related topic for deeper understanding. The SIS’s cover the following sectors –
- Additive Manufacturing - Success Case Studies in Production and Future Preview of Metal AM
- Functional Materials: Soft and Hard Magnetic Materials
- EIT RawMaterials: Competitive and Sustainable Powder Metallurgy Industry
- Hard Materials/Hardmetals - Micromechanical Testing of HM
- Hot Isostatic Pressing & Additive Manufacturing – Microstructure and Mechanical Properties and the Effect of Combined HIP and Heat Treatment Cycles Compared to Conventional Processing
- Hot Isostatic Pressing - HIP and Heat Treatment of IN718-Microstructure and Mechanical Property Relationships of HIPed and Heat-Treated Powder IN718
- Metal Injection Moulding - Quality and Tolerances of MIM Component
- Press & Sinter - A Critical Analysis of the Press & Sintering Technology
On Wednesday evening, participants will be treated at the Congress Dinner to a very special concert from the world renowned Orfeon Donostiarra Choir, followed by a seated dinner at the Euskalduna Centre. The event concludes on Thursday with factory tours within the locality.
