Prof Francisco Castro

After receiving a Bsc. Degree in Physics from the University of México and an Msc. and PhD in 1985 from the University of Sheffield, UK, he was awarded the ‘Brunton Medal’ in Metallurgical Research from the same University. Since 1985 he has been the Director of Powder Metallurgy Area at CEIT and Lecturer of Materials Science at The School of Engineering of the University of Navarra in San Sebastian and since 2016 the Director of Materials and Manufacturing Division at the same institution.
The co-founder of three spin off companies for the manufacturing of metal powders and powder components and a Member of EPMA, APMI as well as of the National Agency for Project Evaluation in Spain. In 2010 he received the ‘Distinguished Service Award 2010’ from EPMA and was co-chair of Euro PM2011 the following year. He has published more than 200 papers between international congresses and technical magazines. Supervised two master theses, several final year projects and 27 PhD theses one of which merited the ‘Schunk Prize’ for Outstanding Developments in Powder Metallurgy.

After studying Industrial Engineering at the Politechnical University of Catalonia, he has worked for the past 35 years in the PM industry, first with AMES in 1982, where he spent 15 years working in engineering, production, quality and sales in both Barcelona and the US. In 1998 he joined Sinterstahl, now PMG, and has remained there until 2018 holding several managerial positions both in NAFTA and mostly in Spain, as Managing Director and Business Unit Manager.
